CYSTOCALM CYSTITIS RELIEF SACHETS

General Questions

What is cystitis?

Cystitis is a type of infection called a UTI, or urinary tract infection. It happens when bacteria enter your bladder through your urethra, causing infection and inflammation. This can happen more often due to having sex, wiping your bottom from back to front after using the toilet, and pregnancy. Some of the most common symptoms of cystitis include:

  • Burning, stinging, or pain when you pee
  • Stomach pain
  • Needing to pee more often than usual
  • Dark, cloudy, or strong-smelling pee
  • Feeling generally unwell, sick, or tired

How will Cystocalm help to ease my cystitis?

Cystocalm sachets contain an active ingredient called sodium citrate which can help to make your urine less acidic. By lowering the acidity of your urine, this helps to reduce symptoms like pain, burning or stinging.

Can I use these sachets if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Cystocalm sachets are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you think you have cystitis during these times you should ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a more suitable product for you.

Can I take this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you’re taking any other medication, including those obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cystocalm. This especially applies if you are already taking:

  • Lithium, which is used for manic depression
  • Methenamine, which is used for urinary infections

How to use these sachets

Take one Cystocalm sachet 3 times a day for 2 days. Mix the contents of the sachet with 200ml of water and drink right away. Do not take more than 3 sachets a day.

When should this product not be used?

Cystocalm is not suitable for use in children or men. Do not use this product if you’re allergic to sodium citrate or any of the other listed ingredients. Speak to your doctor if your symptoms continue for more than 4 days after you begin taking this product or your symptoms keep recurring. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you have an intolerance to some sugars, as this product contains sucrose. Do not take this product if you have:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • A history of kidney disease
  • Are on a low sodium (salt) diet as each sachet contains 939 mg of sodium

Does Cystocalm have any side effects?

Like all medications, Cystocalm can have side effects, although most people do not experience them. This includes passing water more frequently than usual. If you experience this or any other side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or pharmacist. For more information about reporting the side effects of medication, please see the MHRA’s Yellow Card Scheme.
