Sumatriptan Tablets (50mg & 100mg)

Sumatriptan is widely recognised as one of the best ways to quickly and effectively treat migraines.

What is Sumatriptan?

Sumatriptan is a migraine relief tablet that offers fast and effective pain relief if you frequently suffer from intense migraines.

One of the primary causes of a migraine is the widening of the brain’s blood vessels. Sumatriptan migraine relief tablets work by:

  • Stimulating the serotonin receptors in your brain, causing the muscles surrounding the blood vessels in the brain to contract.
  • Stabilising some of the chemical changes that occur in the brain during a migraine.

How do I use Sumatriptan?

Take ONE tablet at the onset of symptoms, dose may be repeated after at least 2 hours if migraine symptoms return. Maximum dose is 300mg in 24 hours (three 100mg tablets or six 50mg tablets).

What strength should I take?

Sumatriptan tablets come in two strengths:.

  • 50mg — a good starting dose for most people. This should relieve most migraine symptoms without the need for a repeat dose.
  • 100mg — for severe migraines, or if 50mg tablets don’t provide enough relief.

How long does it take to act?

Sumatriptan usually starts to work after 30 minutes.

Can I take it with other painkillers or anti-sickness medicines?

Yes. Both strengths can be safely taken with other painkillers or anti-sickness medicines if needed. However, you should not use other 'triptan' migraine treatments while you are using Sumatriptan.

Is Sumatriptan a narcotic?

Sumatriptan is not a narcotic. It is a type of medication known as a ‘triptan’. These are selective serotonin receptor agonists (or 5HT agonists) — painkillers specifically used to relieve migraine attacks.

Previously, narcotics (opioids) have been prescribed by doctors for migraines, but these drugs are generally considered ineffective and potentially addictive, so they are no longer used as widely.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. This is a prescription-only drug which must be prescribed by a fully qualified prescriber.

You can buy Sumatriptan from us after completing a health consultation. Once you’ve been approved for the treatment, our Goodcure prescriber will producre a private prescription to Goodcure Pharmacy. The treatment will be prepared and we’ll deliver it securely and discreetly as early as the next working day.

Prices mentioned above include the cost of the prescription and consultation.
